The Ministry of the Environment (MOE), companies, and other organizations cooperate in letting the world know the scenic beauty and attractions of Japanese national parks, thereby raising the number of domestic and international visitors to the national parks. The program helps the visitors better understand environmental conservation and to vitalize areas that have national parks. Kyushu Financial Group, Higo Bank, and Kagoshima Bank are the first financial institutions in Japan to partner with MOE under the program.

Forests are essential to the lives of humans and many other creatures. They ensure clean water and bountiful rivers and oceans, mitigate disasters and global warming, and provide habitats for a diverse range of living things. JPBV was launched in 2018 as a forum for learning from examples of regional finance practitioners who value relationships with customers and communities and engaging in dialogue on the nature of regional finance with a view to creating a sustainable society. As part of its environmental conservation activities, Kagoshima Bank has signed the Kagoshima Environment Partners Agreement with Kagoshima Prefecture. Based on this agreement, the bank participates in a forestry project undertaken by companies nurturing the environment, which chiefly involves thinning work. By expanding the forestry project, we will contribute to environmental conservation to enhance the role of forests as carbon sinks and many other functions, such as preventing landslides.

Higo Bank and Kagoshima Bank in the Group signed an agreement in cooperation with the Ministry of the Environment, Oita Bank, and Miyazaki Bank on January 18, 2020 to help establish a regional environment cohabitation zone in Central and Southern Kyushu. We will work together in the Project to Fully Enjoy National Parks, activities to provide education on the SDGs for the public, and promotion of ESG loans to create sustainable development in the region.

This model construction project in Kimotsukicho, Kagoshima Prefecture, seeks to resolve a local issue (disposal of farm manure) and establish local production and consumption of energy through biomass power generation and has been selected by MOE as an ESG regional finance promotion project. Kagoshima Bank promotes ESG finance and works to resolve various local issues.
